Ari Lennox

Courtney Shanade Salter (born March 26th, 1991) is better known under her stage name Ari Lennox is an American singer and songwriter who hails from Washington, D.C. She is the first female artist to be signed to J. Cole's label Dreamville Records. She released her first EP on the label on October 21st, 2016, titled Pho. This is when she began gaining fame. The album that she released as her debut album Shea Butter Baby was released on May 7, 2019. Ari Lennox has uploaded her music on the internet since 2012 with her release of her first mixtape "Five Finger Discount" and her EP Ariography. Ari Lennox continued to upload her songs online throughout 2014 and released her own single Bound. In the year 2015, she performed in Omen's Elephant Eyes Album on Sweat it out on July 21st. J. Cole had her send her songs in the direction of his Dreamville Team later in the year, as he wanted Rihanna to work alongside her on some of the songs. On December 8 it was announced that she was signed to Dreamville Records. On the record Revenge of the Dreamers II which she was featured on, she sang the song Backseat along with Cozz. The 21st of October, 2016, her Pho EP was released. Ari Lennox performed the song Change by J. Cole as well as being an opener on the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour 2017 in which she was joined by EarthGang. She also appeared in the music videos Nothing but the Best by EarthGang and Icarus with Bas the label's co-founders. Ari Lennox dropped her first track Whipped Cream from Shea Butter Baby on July 16. The music video was followed by a video in September. Then, on the 9th of November she dropped two additional singles called 40 Shades of Choke (and Grampa). In November 2013 she released her debut album No One and Pedigree. Shea Butter Baby is a track she sang with Cole on the soundtrack to Creed II on the 16th of November. The track was released as a single on its own in February of 2019 to coincide with the release of her debut album. The track was made available with a video uploaded to YouTube 20 February 2019 has been viewed over 3 million times within the first seven days. In December 2018 the singer was a part of her From East Atlanta With Love Tour that featured 6LACK.
